The collaboration has worked very well and Webbhuset has given us a good foundation to stand on with great flexibility and scalability, among others through well-executed integration. It was important for us to have a solution we can grow in, and Webbhuset has truly embraced that. Today, the solution is scalable and dynamic so that we together can build further with more customizations as the need arises.

A scalable e‑commerce solution for aPak
In 2021, Webbhuset was commissioned by aPak to develop a modern and future-proof e‑commerce solution for business-to-business. A project with Webbhuset always starts with a preliminary study where one creates an understanding of the customer's business. There was a strong focus on understanding the breadth of aPak's complex warehousing and logistics management, combined with their customers' unique products and shipping terms. That aPak provides their customers great freedom of choice was a challenge in the project; here an e‑commerce solution was required that did not limit their business where flexibility is an important part of the offering.

APak offers customized packaging and wrapping.
Who are aPak?
Apak is a family-owned packaging company with roots dating back to 1917. They have a turnover of approximately 600 million SEK and have a clear growth plan for the coming years. They have about 70 employees working from Kjula in Eskilstuna and from the head office in Mölndal in Gothenburg. APak offers customized packaging and wrapping, with a strong focus on sustainable packaging. Their customers range from the industrial sector to the food industry, with some references being Volvo, Scania, and SKF. APak has a wide standard assortment where anyone can go in and order, but the largest part of the business consists of customized packaging developed specifically based on the customers' needs and graphical profile.
Automatic order management
APak has warehouses in several different locations in Sweden. This places high demands on the technical solution which must, among other things, know where each product should be shipped from, which delivery options are available in the current case, and how long the delivery time is. For the customer to get the correct information, the system also needs to detect what the customer's price list and freight terms look like, which additional products are shipped from the same place, what the cost of the products from the same place will be, and if this amount will exceed the requirement for free shipping.
“For us at aPak, it has always been important to be able to offer our customers great flexibility. This applies to the packaging, but also its management. To many of our customers, we offer warehousing and customized deliveries. To give the customer the possibility to control and split the deliveries themselves, we have developed an advanced connection between our ERP system and the e‑commerce. The new customization reduces the risk of errors while strengthening clarity and increasing user-friendliness,” says Peter Borgelöv, who is the Marketing Manager at aPak.
It is mainly existing customers who use aPak's e‑commerce. When new products are to be developed, it is the sellers who have contact with the customer, and then the e‑commerce is used as a tool to order the products designed according to specific requests. When you log in, you see the customer-customized packaging and wrapping that can be ordered. Only the company's own selection of products is displayed, as well as relevant information based on their unique price list and delivery conditions.

Investing in growth
APak has high ambitions and is making strong efforts to grow further, but before the new site was launched, they felt limited by an e‑commerce solution that did not give them enough room to develop. It was in May 2022 when aPak's new e‑commerce, created by Webbhuset on the Magento platform, was launched. In the new e‑commerce platform, all the information the customer needs is available and the e‑commerce is well integrated with aPak's ERP Jeeves.

A scalable and dynamic solution
“We got a good impression of Webbhuset and considered that they had a suitable size while it was also positive that we both are based in Gothenburg. The collaboration has worked very well, and Webbhuset has given us a good foundation to stand on with great flexibility and scalability, among others through well-executed integration. It was important for us to have a solution we can grow in, and Webbhuset has truly embraced that. Today, the solution is scalable and dynamic so that we together can build further with more customizations as the need arises,” says Peter.

Today, the e‑commerce is well integrated with aPak's ERP Jeeves which makes it so that internally at aPak they only need to work in the ERP to handle orders, products, and other information. Meanwhile, the site is kept updated based on every adjustment made in the ERP. For the integration to be possible, aPak and Webbhuset worked closely with a consultant from ZeeU who became part of the project team.
APak focuses on a sustainable future
APak's sustainability work throughout the value chain stands out in the industry and has also been a key part of the project. Their three focus areas are climate, employees & society, and sustainable packaging solutions. The sustainability of the packaging is visualized in e‑commerce by marking the number of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) on each product, a measure of greenhouse gas emissions that includes the production process from raw material to delivery. This allows the customer to easily make more sustainable choices.
“We continue to work closely with Webbhuset to refine and develop the site. Some things we already knew during the development that we wanted to complement with after launch, and some needs have arisen afterward. Our new site is significantly more user-friendly than before and now we continue to be receptive to customers' wishes regarding the functions they need,” concludes Peter.
