Toolstore's new e‑commerce and customer portal is built for a fast-changing market

For over 100 years, Luna Group has been a leading wholesaler of machinery and tools for the construction and industrial trade in the Nordic region. As part of Bergman & Beving AB, they have long driven digital commerce, but Luna Group needed a modern e‑commerce platform to better manage its own development. It was time to take a big step forward and create a solution that met both today's and future needs.

A new path forward for Luna Group

When Luna Group wanted to change e‑commerce platforms, it was not just about updating a system—they wanted full control over their digital journey. Previously, the e‑commerce relied on a shared platform with sister companies and several intermediaries between systems, leading to long lead times and limited development opportunities. The new solution gives Luna full control over its digital development and faster response to changes.

"We have many years of experience and have been working with e‑commerce within the group since the late 90s. This is our third version now, and we wanted to bring all that knowledge into the work," says Mikael Kindberg, Business Developer at Luna Group.

Building a solution that could evolve with the market while creating greater flexibility for both customers and internal teams was a central part of the decision.

"We wanted to work more with the users, agilely, to adapt to a rapidly changing market," continues Oskar Eriksson, Head of E‑commerce Systems and PDM at Luna Group.

Customized and future-proof e‑commerce and customer portal

Webbhuset was tasked with developing a new e‑commerce and customer portal for Luna Toolstore, where resellers can easily log in, shop, and manage their orders. The new solution functions both as an e‑commerce and a customer portal where users get an overview of their orders, invoices, and documents.

The solution is built with Fusion Storefront, a composable architecture that offers full flexibility to customize and further develop the platform without needing to change the system in the future. With Fusion Storefront, all business logic is handled in Luna's own system, which means that only what is truly needed has been built into the solution. It offers a faster, smoother, and more future-proof platform.

By integrating e‑commerce with Luna's business system and PIM solution, the system has been optimized for both performance and flexibility. With Webbhuset's CMS, Luna can build and update content themselves without relying on external development. User management has also been customized to suit the needs of resellers, making the system both efficient and easy to use.

"The most important thing for us was to have a system structure that we do not need to replace when we want to further develop in the future—that’s agile!" says Oskar.

The previous platform suffered from long loading times, which frustrated users. With the new solution, performance has been significantly improved, even with large product catalogs and advanced pricing rules.

"We have built exactly what Luna needs, with a focus on performance and simplicity. This makes the system faster, smoother, and easier to maintain," explains Albert Dahlin, Tech Lead at Webbhuset.

An agile collaboration that delivers

The key to this successful project was the close and agile collaboration between Webbhuset and Luna. With daily standups, quick decisions, and transparent and solution-oriented communication, the project was kept within both budget and time frame.

"Compared to other collaborations, we have had a straightforward and honest dialogue. It has been an agile project from the start, and it has been a huge success factor," says Oskar.

Mikael adds: "We were able to bring in the first customer and the first order on the same day the new Toolstore was launched—without problems. It shows how well the system worked from day one."

After the launch, the response from the users has been very positive. Any comments have been quickly addressed, and Luna now has a platform that meets today's requirements and is ready for the future.

A platform to grow with

The project with Luna Toolstore is not a one-time effort—it is a long-term commitment. During the project, the need to move the Luna catalog to the same platform was also captured, which was carried out smoothly. The catalog now functions as part of the new solution, where customers can view products without having to log in.

"We have built a solid foundation to stand on. Now it's about optimizing, further developing, and creating even more value for our customers," says Mikael.

The collaboration between Luna and Webbhuset has shown that agile methods and close communication make it possible to drive large digital projects without unnecessary complexity. With a solution built for change, Luna can now continue to develop its e‑commerce in the direction they themselves want—without being limited by technology.
